Camerata Pacifica 1/13
On January 13th, Camerata Pacifica’s celebrated string trio of Catherine Leonard, Richard Yongjae O’Neill & Ani Aznavoorian will perform one of the pillars of the canon – Johann Sebastian Bach’s Goldberg Variations in the arrangement by Dmitry Sitkovetsky. “Heard in the trio arrangement,” says Camerata Artistic Director Adrian Spence, “the writing opens up to the listener. The counterpoint is easier to hear with three distinct voices, and the famous canons are so clear. Yet the massive impact of the masterwork remains undiluted.”
Following intermission, the trio will be joined by pianist Adam Neiman to perform Ernest Chausson’s Piano Quartet in A major, Opus 30. The Frenchman’s oeuvre is a small – he died early as a result of a bicycle accident – but potent one, and this quartet, densely written and passionately expressive, deserves to be performed much more often.
